Roger Rio, the most capped player in history
On October 19, 1930, Roger Rio played his first match for the first team against US Quevilly. He distinguished himself by scoring his first two goals. At just 17 years of age and after just two months in the junior team, he was already establishing himself as a key member of the team.
In the 1930s, Roger Rio naturally became part of FCR’s famous “machine-gun line”. His qualities did not go unnoticed, and quickly opened the doors to the French national team. On December 12, 1933, he won his first cap against Austria. Until 1937, he would wear the Les Bleus jersey on eighteen occasions.
Remaining loyal to the club where he started out, he played an active role in FCR’s 1945 French championship victory over Lyon. He continued his professional career with Rouen until 1951. He remains the most capped player in the club’s history, with 437 first-team appearances.
