FC Rouen enjoyed a superb European campaign. They eliminated Charleroi and Twente before facing Arsenal in the Round of 16. In this double-header, the Red Devils put in a heroic performance.
In the first leg at the Stade Diochon, they managed to hold off the Gunners, putting in a solid performance. Unfortunately, in the return match at Highbury, a cruel Sammels goal in the dying minutes denied Rouen qualification, with the Reds losing 1-0.
Despite this defeat, FC Rouen’s run in the Fair Towns Cup remains memorable, thanks in no small part to their resilience against one of Europe’s great clubs.
