In a match full of twists and turns, FCR secured a last-minute victory at Fleury and will face Laval in the promotion playoffs!
In a showdown between two teams vying for a spot in the Ligue 2 promotion playoffs, the first half was hard-fought and at times intense, given the stakes. But it was short on scoring chances. Playing well, Rouen could have broken the deadlock before halftime. On a free kick, Cartillier found Bezzekhami, who crossed for Fuss. Well-positioned, his shot went over the bar (41′). Earlier, Alette had made saves on Rouen’s first attempts, just as Maraval had on Fleury’s shots. The Rouen goalkeeper, however, had to stretch to stop a header by Vogt in stoppage time (45+1′).
After the break, Rouen quickly took control and enjoyed a long spell of dominance. Following a scramble in the box, Bouzamoucha got a shot off, but it was saved (47′). On a pass from Bezzekhami, Seydi missed the target (53′). Alette then caught a backheel from Cartillier (58′). Unfortunately, this strong spell went unrewarded. Farade found the net (1-0, 62′). But Rouen kept pressing. Bezzekhami forced Alette to stretch (66′), and the goalkeeper immediately parried Bassin’s shot (66′). At the other end, Maraval made an exceptional double save (72′), and Fleury were reduced to 10 men shortly after, with a straight red card for Aubourg, who committed a dangerous foul on Bassin (73′). The match then took an unexpected turn in FCR’s favor. Rocha equalized on a penalty kick (1-1, 86′). Then, in stoppage time, Faye rose higher than everyone else to head in a cross from Cartillier. The net bulged (1-2, 91′)! Players, staff, and the superb Rouen supporters could celebrate! The joy was even greater a few minutes later when the referee sealed FCR’s victory! The Red Devils will face Laval in the playoffs next week. The first match is Tuesday night at Diochon!
