Solid and stunning, the Red Devils won against Villefranche at Diochon. This is the seventh consecutive league game without defeat for FCR, which is now seven points clear at the top of the National league.
The Red Devils had a slow start in the first half hour. Villefranche took advantage of this. Leye opened the scoring by converting a cross from Sbaï (0-1, 20′). The same Sbaï, well positioned in the box, saw his shot narrowly deflected by Mendy (39′). In the meantime, FCR had seen Seydi leave the field (replaced by Ba-Sy, 23′) and change their system at the half-hour mark. It was a decision that paid off, as the end of the half saw Rouen come out stronger, with Ba-Sy pushing up the field but being denied by Péan (34′). This dominance at the end of the half was rewarded with a goal from Abi, who scored with a beautiful pivot shot (1-1, 44′). FCR then came close to taking the lead. Bassin missed the target with a shot from a powerful cross by Egny (45+3′).
After the break, the first few minutes were again played at a slow pace. Then Rouen launched their first attacks. Ba-Sy (57′) and Bassin (58′) forced Péan into two fine saves in quick succession. The Caladois goalkeeper stretched again to save an attempt by Genton (74′) and then pushed away a cross-shot from Rocha (78′) with his foot. However, Péan was powerless to stop another attempt by Ba-Sy! Our striker found the net with a powerful strike from the edge of the box to give Diochon a 2-1 lead (84′)! The winning goal gave FCR a seven-point lead at the top of the National league!
