FCR was unable to break through against Cannes. On the first matchday of LIGUE 3 Betclic, Rouen and Cannes each earned a point.

After an opening few minutes that saw two chances for Rouen (2′, 6′), Cannes took control. Maraval was initially untroubled by long-range shots from Hervieu (9′, 12′) and a header from Morante (19′), but his crossbar shook on a shot by Gerbeaud (20′). After this strong stretch by Cannes, FCR regained their footing. Tramoni missed the target (30′). Samoura’s shot was caught by Beunardeau (32′). Most importantly, Borne was brought down in the box. The referee initially called a penalty, but it was overturned after Cannes used the video review (37′).

After halftime, Beunardeau pulled off two spectacular saves in quick succession—first against Tchokounté, who was wide on the left in the box, and then against Gakpa right after that at the edge of the box (54′). The rest of the second half was evenly matched and, above all, lacking in scoring chances—until a fine play by Rouen late in the game. Karamoko played a pass to Gaspar, who crossed to Diaby. Well-positioned, his header was caught (89′). Gakpa saw his shot rattle the outside of the net (93′), while Tchokounté’s header sailed wide (94′). The score thus remained tied until the referee’s final whistle.
