FCR Advances in Gournay

FCR put in a solid performance, winning in Gournay in its opening match of the Crédit Agricole French Cup. The Red Devils scored once in each half.

FCR quickly took control of the ball but, on a difficult field, struggled to get into good scoring positions. The first—and best—chance of the first half came on a counterattack. Diaby found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper, who deflected the shot for a corner (9′). After that, Rouen’s chances came mainly from outside the box (20’, 27’, 28’). That is, until a perfectly struck set piece found the back of the net. On a free kick taken by Mbemba, Touré headed it in from six meters out to open the scoring (0-1, 38′). The FCR took the lead before heading into the locker room, against a valiant Gournay team that, through corners and free kicks in Rouen’s half, had driven the ball into the FCR’s box without success.

After the break, and early in the second half, Viana connected with a volley off a good cross from Borne to score the second goal (0-2, 50′). With that second goal in the bag, FCR then created several scoring opportunities. Most of the time, the shots went wide. Or the goalkeeper made a save, as he did against Viana late in the game (87′). The Rouen side had achieved the essential with these two goals and their qualification for the 6th round of the Crédit Agricole French Cup.
