A fine victory against Sochaux

A fine victory against Sochaux

FCR secured its first victory of the season. The Red Devils put in a very good performance against Sochaux and continue their successful start to the season.

Buoyed by their two previous wins, Sochaux started strongly, with Fofana quickly making his mark (4′). The Sochaux players dominated possession in the first half, earning numerous corners and attempting long-range shots. The Rouen defense remained solid and also responded well to long-range shots. Benzia had his first attempt (11′), then on his second attempt found the side netting of Pierre’s goal with a sublime strike (0-1, 21′). At the end of the first half, the Red Devils had a great opportunity to increase the score. In the box, Egny was denied by the Sochaux goalkeeper (42′). Shortly after, Sochaux equalized with a penalty converted by Fofana (1-1, 43′).

Was this late goal enough to unsettle FCR? Not in the slightest. Immediately after returning from the locker room, Tilliez found Benzia in the center, who turned provider for Bassin, who beat Pierre (2-1, 46′). Just 40 seconds into the second half, FCR was back in front. The Red Devils then managed their lead. Temperton saved a fine shot with a firm hand (86′), and shortly after, Gerbeaud put Sochaux to the sword! Well set up by Fuss, he won his one-on-one and sealed FCR’s victory (3-1, 88′). The Red Devils’ first win of the season!
