FC Rouen’s first season in Division 1, 1936-1937!
The Diables Rouges had a magnificent first season in D1, winning in front of their home fans at Le Bruyères. Despite their promoted status, the Rouennais quickly climbed into the top half of the table, even challenging for the title of French Champion!
The team’s impressive progress aroused the enthusiasm of the fans, and the FCR broke several of its attendance records at Le Bruyères. On January 3, against Olympique de Marseille, 17,500 spectators were present, and a week later, against RC Paris, the stadium exceeded 20,000!
The team finished 4th in the league, an excellent result for their first season in D1 under President Diochon.
